今日は念願のアロウホが飲めました。ワイナートのカリフォルニアスーパーワイナリー特集ではカベルネの一番人気でしたでしょうか。NAPA Valley アイズリー・ヴィンヤード1996です。あのカリスマワインメーカー、トニー・ソーター氏とミア・クラインの名前、でもそれと同じ位大事なのがぶどうを管理しているヴィンヤード・マネージャーのデヴィッド・エイブリューなのよ、と一緒に飲んだマッキーが力説。ふむふむ。カリフォルニアも最近はテロワールなのだそうで、この畑はカベルネにとって絶好のロケーションというわけで、ここのところ一気に評価が急上昇したワインですね。本によりますとセパージュの比率はCS93%CF4%PV3%で生産量は2500ケースとのこと。なかなか入手困難なワインです。今回はローヌI氏がシンガポールまで行って買ってきてくれたのです。ありがとう。素晴らしく濃い赤紫色で黒すぐりやちょっと酸味を感じるプラムの香り。すごい強いぞうと思って飲んだら、意外にアタックがソフト。すっきりとしたバランスで清らかな感じがありました。でも時間と共になめらかにクリーミーになって、余韻がじんわりと長い。私としてはカリフォルニアというより何だかオーブリオンに似たような感じもあったりして。パワーで押せ押せではない、能あるタカは爪を隠す、って味わいでした。
私１人ではアロウホ様に申し訳ないという気持ちで、ここはオーナーのコメントをすっかり掲載してしまいましょう。マック、ちゃんと読んでおいてね。

Araujo, Eisele Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon 1996:
Very impressive dark ruby color, and a reticent but complex nose of soft black fruit. In the mouth, the wine is very concentrated and dense, but not heavy at all. It has plenty of flavor authority, but a very soft attack, with perfectly integrated acidity and tannin, which builds and builds in the subtle aftertaste.
The flavor goes on and on for almost one minute. There is nothing explosive about this wine, but the balance is absolutely beautiful, with everything a good wine should have, but expressed in an understated but unmistakable manner.
Personally, it reminded me of a Guigal Cote Rotie from La Mouline, or a great J.L. Chave Hermitage from a great vintage, which is characterised by its great flavor intensity and definition without any sense of heaviness that I see all too often in California Cabs. There is a great deal of tongue and tooth dusting tannin, but it is well integrated, which gives the wine a subtle and necessary grip.
As old time drinkers of Chateau Margaux once said, "a velvet glove covering an iron fist". This is not a wine to be tasted blind amidst the power-monger California reds, but one to be enjoyed singularly in a reserved and relaxing atmosphere.

Aroujo Elsele Vineyard, Sauvignon Blanc 1997 香り高く本当にさわやか。
Kistler, Vine Hill Vineyard, Chardonnay 1992 いつも感動のおいしさです。
Etude, Pinot Noir 1997 これ、インヤンマーク入りのアメリカンです。
Viader 1993　カリフォルニアのシュバル・ブランですよお。
Grgich Hills 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon　酸味がシャープで美しく清らか。
そして最後に
